The vegetable tunnel project sponsored by Raubex currently has 62 tunnels at the homes of individual families. Seedlings for the winter season have been planted during this term and harvests are ready for family usage and sales! The spinach crops are looking more than promising.

The average number of spinach seedlings in each tunnel is 120. Each seedling can produce 8 bunches of spinach per season. The real effect: 120 seedlings x 8 bunches x R6/bunch = R5760!
This being the monetary value of the spinach either utilized by the family or/and sales of the crops during a season. We have planted 9056 spinach seedlings and 6695 beetroot seedlings with the vegetable tunnel project this term! The total value of the spinach harvests for this community will add up to R434 688!
Another major seller from veggie tunnels:
The last of the peppers for the summer season were sold. During April, one of the tunnel owners earned in excess of R1500 from the selling of her succulent green and red peppers to Pick ‘n Pay and local restaurants.
