On 26 October 2015, Franco Smith, head coach of the Toyota Cheetahs, his wife, Tania Smith and MJ Smith head coach of the Toyota U/21 Cheetahs, will cycle from Bloemfontein to Sea Point as part of the Pedal4Purpose campaign. Beudene Daycare for Disabled in Bloemfontein is one of their beneficiaries. Pedal 4 Purpose is a platform for cyclist to combine their love for the sport and their pedalling power to make a difference to meaningful causes.
In addition, Frans Cronje, the well-known film producer, director, writer for films like Faith like Potatoes, Hansie, Born to Win and Baroudeur, and 9 of his friends will make the 1146km journey on behalf of Alta du Toit Aftercare in Belville.
The public is invited to contribute to this initiative by becoming involved as a sponsor for our Bloemfontein cyclists. Beudene is a day-care for people of all ages living with disabilities. The day-care is situated in 5 Ray Champion Road, Rayton, Bloemfontein. Beudene celebrates their 18th birthday this year and care for 40 – 65 people with disabilities on a daily basis. The disabilities range from slightly intellectually impaired to severe, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and multiple disabilities. Beudene also provides specialized care to children with Autism. One out of every 50 children is born on the Autistic spectrum (Ten years ago it was 1 out of 5000). Beudene does not receive any governmental support and is solely dependent on the day-care fees, private donations and volunteers to support this labour of love.
